All About Us

Be it playing alongside internationally-acclaimed musicians or entertaining passengers aboard some of the world's best-loved cruise ships, playing formal concerts or rocking out in Spark Arena to a crowd of 12,000, or even playing for film and television, we've done it all. Led by partners in life as well as on stage Joella Pinto (violin) and Martin Roberts (cello), the Arcus Quartet was formed in 2014 with Hanny Lee (violin) and Julie Park (viola), and has since grown to accommodate a larger roster of other fantastic musicians. We are all classically-trained, with a combined 35+ years of tertiary education and experience. Our training comes from the University of Auckland (NZ), the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto, Canada), the Royal Academy of Music (London, UK), and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen (Trossingen, Germany). We have collectively performed across Aotearoa, from Kerikeri to Invercargill, as well as in 4 continents within multiple ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen. All of this comes together to form one of New Zealand's most diverse and dynamic string quartets who are at home playing any type of music in any setting, be it for corporate functions and private events, or fully-fledged concerts and recitals.

We are a very friendly group and aim to make our music available to as many people as we can, so don't hesitate to contact us - we'd love to chat!
